ENERGY ALABAMA LAUNCHES FREE TOOL TO HELP ALABAMIANS FOLLOW UTILITY MONEY IN STATE POLITICS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Energy Alabama today launched the Alabama Power Money Tracker, a free online tool that helps Alabamians search campaign contributions connected to Alabama Power-related sources.
The tracker allows users to search Alabama political candidates and elected officials and view estimated contribution totals based on public campaign finance records and PAC filings.
“This information has always belonged to the public, but it hasn’t always been easy to find or understand,” said John Dodd, policy manager with Energy Alabama. “We created the Alabama Power Money Tracker so Alabamians can follow the money, see the bigger picture and decide for themselves what it means.”
Campaign finance records are publicly available, but finding contributions across multiple filings and calculating the totals can be difficult and time-consuming. Energy Alabama created the tracker to bring that information together in one searchable place.
The tool is intended to make public information more useful and accessible. It does not claim that a campaign contribution influenced any candidate, elected official or public policy decision.
“Accountability starts with information,” Dodd said. “Alabamians should be able to see who is helping fund political campaigns without needing a spreadsheet and a free afternoon.”

Because campaign finance records may be amended or updated, totals shown in the tracker are estimates based on the public records available at the time the information was collected. Energy Alabama encourages users to review the methodology and source information provided through the tracker.
