Montgomery, AL — Energy Alabama congratulates Governor Kay Ivey’s appointments to the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC), following recent changes to the Commission’s structure. The appointments fill seats created through legislation enacted earlier this year that expanded the PSC from three members to seven.
“It’s worth remembering why these jobs exist in the first place. Alabama families spoke up about paying some of the highest electric bills in the South, and that public pressure is what built this expanded Commission,” said John Dodd, Policy Manager of Energy Alabama. “We congratulate the new commissioners. They are stepping into these roles because everyday Alabamians demand regulators that answer to the people.”
“The work moving forward is easy to say and hard to do. Pursue outcomes that work for Alabamians, not Alabama Power,” Dodd said. “That means opening the Commission’s process to the public, asking hard questions about what customers actually pay, and reckoning with the fact that this Commission hasn’t put Alabama Power through a full, open rate case since 1981. A base rate freeze that expires in 2029 is a pause, not relief.”
