Energy Alabama Launches New Knowledge Center and Alabama Power Bill Calculator to Help Residents Understand Energy Use and Utility Costs
Birmingham, AL — Energy Alabama, today announced the launch of its new Knowledge Center and its Alabama Power Bill Calculator, two online tools designed to help Alabamians better understand their energy use and the state’s utility landscape.
The Alabama Power Bill Calculator, a key feature of the Knowledge Center, allows Alabama Power customers to input the amount of their most recent electric bill and instantly see a detailed breakdown of where their money actually goes. The interactive tool helps consumers visualize how much of their monthly bill goes toward profit, fuel, power plants, and other charges – bringing much needed transparency to the state’s largest utility. Visitors may be surprised to learn that more than 30% of their Alabama Power bill is profit.
The broader Knowledge Center serves as a comprehensive resource for all Alabama residents. Organized into six major sections, it includes:
- Historical and policy resources, including utility profiles and summaries of influential public service commission dockets
- Guidance for drivers exploring electric vehicles
- Tools for homeowners interested in going solar
- Practical energy efficiency tips for households and businesses
- A robust lesson library to support teachers bringing clean energy topics into the classroom
- An expansive glossary of terms and collection of frequently asked questions to demystify complex energy concepts
