Montgomery, AL — Energy Alabama is pleased to see the Alabama Public Service Commission utilize their authority to call a rate case hearing on Spire Gas. These proceedings promote the kind of accountability and transparency that Alabama ratepayers deserve. We hope the PSC takes this process seriously and utilizes their full authority to review Spire’s earnings, allowable expenditures, and customer rates.
“The same scrutiny must apply to Alabama Power, the other investor-owned, regulated monopoly utility,” said John Dodd, Policy Manager at Energy Alabama. “Electric customers in this state have gone decades without a formal rate case, while Alabama Power’s profits have roughly doubled. One hearing for one utility is a start, but it is not enough.”
