Energy Alabama Applauds Passage of HB 475 Out of House Committee
Montgomery, AL – Today, the Alabama House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee took a major step toward stronger oversight, transparency, and accountability at the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC) with the passage of HB 475.
The bill would establish a formal, regularly scheduled rate case process and reduce the amount of profit utilities are allowed to charge customers. It also reinforces a simple principle: electric bills should cover the cost of providing electric service, not lobbying, political activity, or other unrelated expenses.
At a time when other proposals, including the so-called “Power to the People Act,” fail to address the real reasons Alabama families are facing high power bills, HB 475 begins tackling the core issue: stronger oversight of utility rates.
Energy Alabama appreciates Rep. Mack Butler, the bill’s co-sponsors, and the entire House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee for advancing this legislation. While more work remains to ensure electricity in Alabama is fair and affordable, HB 475 represents meaningful progress for Alabama consumers. We look forward to the bill’s passage on the House floor as soon as possible.
